Oleksandr Mashovets
– Ukrainian guitarist and composer who blends intensity and sensitivity in contemporary music
Born in 2001 in Kyiv, Ukraine, Oleksandr discovered the guitar in his early teens. By the age of 18, he had decided to pursue music professionally. During his studies at the Gliere Music College, he was strongly influenced by experienced, jazz-oriented teachers who helped shape his musical direction. While still a student, he was actively performing: appearing at the Koktebel Jazz Festival (Kyiv) in 2019, collaborating with professional musicians as a guest guitarist, performing with the Gliere College Big Band, and regularly playing at jazz concerts and jam sessions in his hometown.

In 2023, he graduated from college with honors and continued his education at the jazz department of the Gliere Music Academy, specializing in jazz guitar. In 2024, he was awarded the Abakanowicz Scholarship and in 2025, he was invited as a student guest from Gliere Academy to Berklee College in Valencia. That same year, he was selected as a participant in the Resonate UA program and will represent Ukraine as part of the national delegation at the jazzahead! festival in Bremen in 2026.
The debut album of the Oleksandr Mashovets Quartet is set for release in May 2026, created with Hlib Akimchenkov, Danylo Korin, and Anton Holinko as a work of collective artistry.
My music is the result of a personal journey that began in 2022, during the lockdown, when I found myself alone with my thoughts. At first, these were my entirely intuitive, subconscious attempts and explorations, alone with my guitar, but over time my vision and sense of music transformed and evolved. Eventually, I realized that I needed a broader sound to fully unlock the potential of my music - which is why I formed a quartet.
Oleksandr Mashovets Quartet is a Kyiv based band of young musicians who are playing modern, original music.
Within our group, thanks to constant interaction and playing together, new songs and ideas began to emerge. Ultimately, our explorations, discoveries and changes imbued the music with new meanings and took shape in the form I had long sought. The compositions on this album embody such voices of contemporary Ukraine as: trauma, coming to terms with the past, loss, and enforced loneliness. When performing our music, the task of each member of the quartet is to use their instruments to express the feelings that trouble us most.
